Classroom Procedures:

There will always be 3 verbal warnings in the classroom before a Behavior Alert is sent home.



Extra Help:

If 3rd Graders need extra help on their recorders I will be available every Thursday during my lunch time (their recess).

If they lose or misplace their music they can come and get new copies anytime from the long rectangular table in the music room.

Some Kindergarten Activities

Audiation ("Plainsies Clapsies" "), Singing Games ("When Cats Get Up In The Morning", "Old King Glory" ), Movement-With-The-Beat Games ("Everybody Do This", this month we take turns)

Kindergarten Songs ("Alphabet Song").

A Few Musical Questions for January:

What do the words "inside" and "outside" mean in music class?  What do we call the thing in the music that doesn't change? (The Beat) What is a "rest"?

 

Some Grade 1 Activities

Playing non-pitched percussion instrunents ("How Many Days"), Playing pitched percussion instruments ("Rub-A-Dub-Dub"), Learning Traditional American Songs ("If I Had A Hammer", "The Erie Canal")

A Few Musical Questions for January:

What is a canal?  What is a barge? What is the correct way to hold the mallets?  What is the largest mallet instrument called?  What is a "rest"?  (review from Kindergarten)

 

Some Grade 2 Activities

Audiation ("The Beanbag Game"), Form (many popular songs used as examples), Traditional American Songs ("If I Had A Hammer", "Sudio")

A Few Musical Questions for January:

What does the word "Verse" mean? (review from December)  What does the word "Chorus" mean?  What is the beginning of a piece of music called?  What is the ending called?  Generally speaking which songs have a more complicated form, older songs (from the 20th Century) or newer songs (from the 21st Century)?

Reading Music (Quarter notes, quarter note rests, half-notes and half-note rests and whole notes on the recorder), Recorder Practice,  Improvisation, Traditional American Songs.

A Few Musical Questions for January:

What does the musical symbol "mf" mean?  Who wrote "Four Beats?  What is "The Sign"? (review from December) What does the word "improvise" mean?  Which instruments did we use to improvise in music class?  How can you tell the difference between a rest that gets two beats and one that gets four beats?
