Welcome to Second Grade!

Welcome!

Math: We have recently finished our first unit Getting Started in Second Grade. The focus was on beginning to learn strategies to solve problems, understanding money, and understanding a calendar. Our next unit is all about buttons. The students will be learning about estimating, sorting, grouping, and skip counting.

Reading: We are beginning our first unit Kindness. As we read the students are learning and practicing the strategies that "good readers" use. They are learning how to visualize, make predictions, make connections, ask questions, and summarize. The students are learning how make thoughtful book choices that are "just right".

Writing: Through weekly writing topics and guided practice we will be working on how to develop a well written paragraph, and how to edit and revise our work to make it the best writing we can do.

Science: Our first science unit is on magnets.

Social Studies: We are currently learning about maps.

Just a reminder:

When a homework or behavior alert is sent home it needs to be signed and returned to school.

Homework:

 * Homework sheets are sent home each Monday.

* Students are expected to read and study their math facts each night.

* Completed reading sheets are due at the end of the week.

* Homework needs to be returned on time.
